'Expect the unexpected'. Private equity firms are also active in an increasingly uncertain environment; in different sectors and within companies of different sizes. During the past few years, the role of private equity regarding the family business has become increasingly important and visible.

 

Succession by - and transfer to - the next generation is an important agenda item in the discussions about the future in family owned businesses. 

 

The continuation of the organization in the future, together with the role of the family in the management of the company is a regularly recurring point of attention. The family role is not always obvious. Therefore, the question must be asked whether people from outside the family are also needed to fill the strategic and/or senior management positions. Not only because of a lack of interest within the family, but also to make sure that the right person is appointed in the right position. The continuity and success of the organization is best guaranteed by having the right knowledge and expertise on board.

 

This clear focus on adequate leadership and consistent value creation is - obviously - also found within the private equity’s portfolio companies. To (continue to) keep that focus, choosing the right person in the right place within management determines the achievement of the goals set.
